最近被朋友拉去跟最新一季的 American Idol，選唱 Whitney Houston 單曲的頗有人在。不過呢，在AI這種場合，選唱毒妮的歌，不是實力驚人就是找死。我對她在80年代的那些冠軍單曲沒什麼印象，真正有印象是90年代以後的事。點一首給自己記憶中的90年代，我記得苦悶的高中生活，瘋狂到不行的景美女中高中英語營，在大熱天穿著墨鏡麂皮夾克與玩具槍扮演魔鬼終結者的往事。啊，好久以前了。

後記：
在Chorus的部分，我以前空耳聽都聽成「I don't wanna hold anymore/Stay in my eyes if you dare」。其實這樣寫好像也說得通呢。「Stay in my eyes」只求心愛的人留在自己的眼前（而不是更靠近的懷裡），更有那種孤注一擲，為愛不惜一切的感覺呢。

影響一個人喜歡什麼歌的因素，除了品味，也跟下面這些脫不了關係：聽者的年紀、情境、經歷、心境、想像力。一個人對某種音樂的喜好，往往是他當下「內心世界的反應」。我們會在不同階段，喜歡聽不同的歌。有些歌會永遠成為你生命中的一部分，有的很快拜拜，有的一段時間後才和你分道揚鑣。
簡單說，就是一首歌能不能引起你的「共鳴」。若能，又持續多久。
就咱們分別喜歡「I have nothing」和「I will always love you」這兩首情歌來說，一方面表現出我們對「愛情」有不同的看法與立場：目前，我的愛意較多，你的焦慮較多（各自而言，並非說我愛意比你多）。另方面也表現出我們（面對愛情的）個性的不同：你偏主動，我偏被動；你激動、我溫合。
再強調一下：這是就「目前情況」來看，不是永久如此。
好啦，簡單講講。畢竟，Tastes differ. 我們不能說，鄉里巴人的品味一定比聽巴哈的差，不然就是偏見了。

對我來講，這首「I have nothing」是一種背景音樂，令我想起其實絕大多數時候都極其苦悶的高中時代。那種苦悶另有由來，「已經呼吸到了自由開放的空氣卻不得不回來」，然後發現自己的童年玩伴分道揚鑣，他們都唸了人人欣羨的第一志願高中，而我呼吸自由空氣的代價卻是落到一個「夏蟲不可以語冰」的地方－－怎樣才能讓我的同學知道，高中教育，其實可以有不同的想像，可以選課、一班只有二十個人，也沒有制服這回事？
那個時候沒有談戀愛，也不知道箇中滋味，可是我一直覺得這首歌裡的那種激昂情緒更像是突破苦悶的那種小小窗口，一直如此。到了很久以後，想起了那些離我而去的女孩子們，記憶中的聲音就突然浮現，有了新的意義。
「Stay in my eyes」是十幾年來的誤解，只是在此時此刻，這樣的空耳誤聽卻另有一份淒涼美感。衛方在許多個寒冷的冬夜裡，當他讀書累了的時候，總是望著攝影愛好者的網站，看著小薇的照片而發楞....
